Kansas-based SmartGunz have announced that their Sentry 9mm pistol, the company’s first product, will begin shipping in the 2nd quarter of 2021. Physically the SmartGunz Sentry is a 9x19mm 1911 pistol, but it utilises RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology to enable the gun to be used by its designated user.
SmartGunz LLC believes that one way to save lives lost from gunfire is to offer “smart gun” firearms
technology where the firearm can only be operated by its intended user. The pistol comes with a glove which contains an RFID chip unique to that pistol which allows the weapon to work only when in contact with the glove. The company envisages that the pistol might be useful for home defense, in law enforcement and correctional system applications where losing control of your firearm could be fatal.
The user must be holding the pistol and depressing a switch on the weapon in order to fire it. The pistol unlocks in less than 200 milliseconds. SmartGunz say their firearms are designed specifically for either right-handed or left-handed shooters and must be ordered accordingly.

Today, SmartGunz, LLC announced 2nd quarter 2021 availability of its Sentry 9mm pistol, the company’s flagship smart gun technology firearm for use in both home defense and correctional facility market segments.
The 9 mm Sentry features SmartGunz’s patent pending lock-out technology that is integrated with an RFID chip contained in a glove worn by the shooter. The shooter must depress the safety activation switch on the firearm while wearing an RFID-enabled glove to permit firing.
This ensures that each SmartGunz firearm fires each and every time when it is supposed to AND ONLY when it is supposed to fire.
